Q: What materials do you use?
A: Most of Erica’s designs are in sterling silver or gold fill unless otherwise noted. Select pieces are available in heavy plated 14kt gold over sterling silver, also known as gold vermeil.
Q: What is gold fill?
A: Gold fill is an actual layer of gold which is pressure bonded to another metal. It is not gold plated and contains more gold than gold plated. Gold fill does not rub off or turn colors and can be worn by anyone who can wear gold without worry of allergic reaction. It will last as long as 14kt gold.
Q: What is gold plated, aka gold vermeil?
A: Vermeil is a thick layer of 14kt gold electroplated over sterling silver. It is much thicker than basic gold plating, where the metal is way too thin and can rub off easily. We have our vermeil plated with at least 2.5 microns of gold so that it lasts for years with proper care.
Q: Is 14kt gold available?
A: Absolutely! Erica would be happy to create select designs in 14kt gold as a custom order. Please contact us if you are interested in beginning this design process. Pricing is based on current market value of gold as well as design details.
The best way to preserve the luster of your jewelry is to store it in a cloth jewelry pag or plastic bag. We do not recommend swimming in the jewelry. Avoid contact with lotion, chemicals, etc.
Q: How do I care for my sterling silver jewelry?
A: Over time, any sterling silver jewelry exposed to air will tarnish. Comprised of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, it’s the other metals, typically copper, that make sterling silver tarnish. The copper reacts to moisture and sulfur in the air, causing the tarnish. Silver tarnishes faster in areas with high humidity and air pollution and when it comes into contact with agents such as skin creams, perfume, sulphur, salty air, hairspray, chlorine and acidic skin ph. The amount of oxidation (tarnish) that occurs is dependent on the skin and care habits of the wearer. Tarnishing is not a manufacturing fault and we take great care to thoroughly clean all pieces before shipping to ensure that. Tarnishing sterling silver may take from 2 months to 3 years. It all depends on your environment and the way you take care of your sterling silver jewelry.
The easiest way to clean smooth or polished silver is with a clean soft cloth. Silver is a very soft metal so never use a tissue to polish as it can leave tiny scratches on the surface. A 100% cotton cloth or flannel cloth is recommend. To lightly clean brushed sterling silver pieces, scrub gently with a toothbrush dipped in a little baking soda and water, rinse, and blot dry with a soft towel or cloth.
For heavier tarnishing, clean your jewelry using a small amount of SILVER jewelry cleaner on a soft cloth, gently rub the silver several times. Then rinse the silver thoroughly in warm water and carefully dry. This will remove the tarnish and dullness, keeping your sterling silver like new. Or, you can create DIY silver cleaner. Mix a paste of three parts baking soda to one part water. Wet the silver and apply the cleaner with a soft, lint-free cloth (not paper towels). Work the paste into the crevices, turning the cloth as it gets gray. Rinse and buff dry.
You can also prevent tarnish by storing your jewelry when you aren’t wearing it to protect it from air and light. Chlorine can damage sterling silver so don’t forget to remove when swimming.
We hope this helps! If not, do not hesitate to reach out for more help.

A. Quality and craftsmanship is my utmost concern. However, please understand that jewelry is delicate by nature. Every Erica Sara Designs piece comes with a 6 month limited warranty from the date of purchase. This warranty covers breakage, but does not cover damages related to normal wear and tear, such as surface scratches. The warranty also does not cover damage deemed to be caused by misuse (examples: it was caught in your zipper, your child yanked it off your neck). Repairs that are needed after the 6 month warranty expires or that are deemed to be caused by misuse will incur a repair charge at the customer’s expense as well as shipping charges.
Q. My item was received but was lost or stolen once received. What can I do?
A. We’re sorry but we are not responsible for any items lost or stolen once they’re received.
