Celebrating a Historic Boston Marathon Anniversary Run
52 years ago, women were officially allowed to run the Boston Marathon for the very first time. Just eight women finished the race in 1972, and one of them was the incredible Val Rogosheske. Fast forward to the 50th anniversary, Adidas invited Val, her daughters Allie and Abby, and her cousin Kris to run the marathon again.
I was honored to create a custom unicorn washer design for Kris, engraved with “BOSTON 26.2 1972-2022,” marking their unforgettable journey. That project holds a special place in my heart, and you can read all about it here on my blog.
Now, two years later, I have been given another extraordinary opportunity. Kris’s husband reached out to have me design a new piece to capture the moment these four amazing women crossed the finish line together in 2022. I knew I wanted to make something as meaningful and personal as their bond, so I transformed that powerful photo into a detailed silhouette necklace, and engraved the cheer sign and finish line into the sterling silver piece.
A note from Kris: “Hi Erica Sara, I can’t thank you enough for the beautiful photo necklaces Kyle asked you to create commemorating our 2022 Boston marathon finish. They’re stunning! I delivered one to Abby in person when I was in MN a couple of weeks ago. She then delivered the others to Val and Allie. I’ll try to attach a picture of them along with a kind note Val sent this week. 😊”
Creating jewelry to commemorate such meaningful milestones is truly an honor. Every piece I hand craft carries the weight of these stories, and I’m grateful to be just a tiny part of their celebrations. I love my job!!!
